Villa hungry for Confederations Cup glory

Tuesday, June 4, 2013

The striker says he wants to take home the only trophy his country are yet to win and will make a decision on his Barcelona future when he returns

Spain star David Villa says he is hungry for glory in the 2013 Confederations Cup in Brazil and that he will analyse his future at Barcelona after the tournament.

La Roja have the chance to bring home that final trophy to complete the set this year, having already been victorious in the Olympics, the World Cup and the European Championship.

And now Villa is determined to capture that elusive silverware.

"When I wear the [Spain] shirt I'm the happiest man in the world," the 31-year-old was quoted as saying by AS. "Usually I've really wanted it, but this time, even more so.

"I'm very excited. The thought that this is the only trophy ... [we have not won] is extra motivation. We will try to win the title and bring it back to Spain.

"On a personal level, the season has not been as good as we had hoped," he continued. "I thank the coach [Vicente del Bosque] for the confidence he has placed in me."

The Barcelona striker also spoke about his future at the Catalan giants, who in recent weeks has been linked with Premier League outfits Arsenal and Tottenham.

"I have one more year under contract," said Spain's all-time goalscorer. "Today I am a Barca player. [A decision over my future] is certainly not easy ... but now I am only thinking of being selected.

"I owe it to my team-mates, the team and the public. After the Confederations Cup I have to think and analyse everything. Right now I'm happy to be at the best club in the world.

"I have a contract with them and I have to go in after the holidays. Then we will see what happens."
