Sandro Rosell and Éric Abidal today announced that the heroic Frenchman would not be continuing at FC Barcelona next year.
Rosell spoke first, thanking Abidal for all his service and saying that “the doors at Barça are always open to him.
” Whenever Abidal retires, the club would like him to be the technical director of Barça schools across the world.
Abidal will consider the proposal, adding,
“I would’ve liked to play for the club again, but they saw things differently and I respect the club’s decision.
I leave now, but I will be back.”
He also expressed a desire to get some minutes this weekend in the team’s final game against Málaga, in order to say goodbye to the Camp Nou.
Abidal has not yet received any offers for next year.
